Pleased to finally share an update of great news!
The Trustees of the Aberfeldy Sports Club (TASC) are pleased to announce that they have signed a contract for the construction of a new building on the cleared site formerly occupied by the Aberfeldy Golf Club pavilion.
The successful tenderer was Alpha Projects (Scotland) Limited, who plan to commence work in December and complete construction by October 2025.
The projected total cost, including professional fees, preliminaries etc. was funded by SSE Renewables, The Gannochy Trust, sportscotland, Scottish Rugby, Basil Death Trust, Aberfeldy RFC, Aberfeldy Golf Club (who also donated the site) and, via Perth & Kinross Council, the Community Led Local Development (CLLD) fund and United Kingdom Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). A further anonymous donation was made by a company working locally.
TASC chairman Peter Howell said: “The Trustees started work on this project in 2021 and we are delighted to have reached this stage. It would be fair to say that the journey has not been easy. Towards completion of the initial planning process, our progress was hugely impacted by the retrospective application of new 200-year flood risk regulations which necessitated a significant redesign of the building. As a result, we were obliged to appeal to our funders for additional time and money to complete the project. All funders have shown great patience and for this we offer our heartfelt thanks. We are particularly grateful to the funders who stepped up to increase funding awards: SSE Renewables via their Griffin & Calliachar Fund, The Gannochy Trust, and the CLLD and UKSPF funds via Perth & Kinross Council.
We should thank too, Jon Frullani Architect Ltd for their patience in handling multiple revisions of the building plans and their public-spirited approach to fees.
I should also mention the support we have received from local politicians: in particular, Councillors John Duff and Michel Williamson, John Swinney MSP, and Dave Doogan MP. I hope that we can now push forward to complete our project without bothering them again.”
The new clubhouse will be a single-story building with men’s and women’s changing rooms, showers, toilets and meeting rooms, a bar/restaurant, and areas for leisure and lifestyle events. The facilities will be available to all local amateur sports clubs and to the public.
The Trustees look forward to providing a modern community clubhouse which will benefit all Aberfeldy folk and visitors to the area
